It is unwise to rush from here to there. To hold one’s breath causes the body strain; exhaustion follows when too much energy is used, for this is not the Natural Way.
Way thought for the day – 20.4.2011
He who has virtue is like a newborn child, free from attack by those who dwell in the way of Nature, the straight path that is The Way. The bones of the newborn child are soft, his muscles supple, but his grip is firm; he is whole, though not knowing he was born of the creative and receptive way. The way of Nature is in the child, so even when he cries all day, his throat does not grow hoarse or dry. From constancy, there develops harmony, and from harmony, enlightenment.
Herd mentality – news items on Irish and Portuguese banking crisis – root causes?
This article in the Irish Times, dated 19th April 2011, shows, even if it is in the case of a small country like Ireland, that blind faith in following a herd mentality, as enhanced and promoted by generations of religiously based attitudes and training (blind faith), leads to destroyed livelihoods and lives. We know that the problem is worldwide to some degree, but we might ask about the influences behind such extreme failings in this case. Why do we accept belief in the unreasoned?

This article “From one ‘Pig’ to another”, in the same edition of the Irish Times, tells of yet more troubles, this time in Portugal. Can you see something in common between the two countries?

I've Looked
I have looked into the void I've lived.
Down in a dark abyss.
Down where the soul lies empty and still,
Down where I no longer exist.
I've heard men laughing and joking,
Their minds empty and so unaware.
I've seen them drunk with the fear of a god,
And of reality so deep unaware.
I have seen the sun on many lands,
Rising up gold and bright.
I have heard the loud guns cracking.
To some bringing eternal night.
I have lived the way I was taught to live,
To fight for the right where I could.
It seems all a con as I look into the deep.
The gods never did any good.
I've seen men bent in prayer,
But never saw I the requested relief.
I've watched good men die, for what I don't know,
Apart for the sake of their unreasoned beliefs.
The beliefs were pressed into the minds of them all,
Afraid of their god the fiercest of all.
Afraid of their life and more of their death,
A curse on their lips with their very last breath.
The priests in their robes designed to impress,
Men dressed like women in long flowing dress.
These sodomites lead all they can reach to their death,
They own your soul and try to own your last breath.
It's time to rise up, as poverty's no joy,
They hold onto their money and the small altar boy.
Why call them men? Why call them at all?
They can only lead you away from the Caul.
No truth is preached and all is just claimed,
When illness visits, it's your sin that to blame.
It's now twenty-eleven and most men can read.
Why follow so blindly this most evil of seed?
The Unholy Trinity* stands aloof and remote,
They farm you like a sheep, or a good milking goat.
Open you eyes and open your soul,
Turn you to reason and keep your blood whole.

Way thought for the day – 19.4.2011
All things are microcosms of the wisdom of The Way; the world a microcosmic universe, the nation a microcosm of the world, the village a microcosmic nation; to the family, a village in microcosmic view, and the body a microcosm of one’s own family; from single cell to the galaxy.

The greater the number of laws and restrictions laid down, the poorer the people who inhabit the land. The sharper and more numerous the weapons of war, the greater the troubles that shall beset the land.

That which is firmly rooted, is not easily torn from the ground; just as that which is firmly grasped, does not slip easily from the hand. The virtue of the wisdom of The Way is real, if cultivated in oneself; it can be felt as well as seen, and its experience is complete. When loved in the family, it abounds; when throughout the village, it will grow; and in the nation, be abundant. When it is real universally, virtue is in all people.
Way thought for the day – 17.4.2011
The Way is not in the sky. The Way is in the heart, and perceived by reason.

It is not the way of Nature to carry a sword unless for defence; even the brier has thorns. It is not seeming to over-adorn oneself, nor to have more than a sufficiency of fine food and drink. He who has more possessions than he can use, deprives someone else who could use them well. The good follower takes nothing that he cannot put back, and shares his surplus.

When the court has adornments in profusion, the fields are full of weeds and the granaries are bare. Sell the adornments and buy food and tools. The good earth shall be cleared of weeds, shall yield again, and the granaries will be filled.
